Food: Fuel, Fun, or an Emotional Massage?

Food is necessary for survival, but for many of us it’s also pleasure, comfort, and part of how we move through the day. We’re fortunate to have choices that much of the world doesn’t. What does that abundance do to our relationship with food?

This week, let’s pay attention without judging ourselves: What is food to you—fuel, fun, or emotional massage? Share what comes up, and use your journal to notice when you’re hungry, what you’re hoping food will do for you, and how you feel afterward.

Week 1: Food and Drink — What Are You Actually Feeding?

Food and drink shape more than our bodies. They affect our energy, judgment, mood, discipline, relationships, and ability to live deliberately.

This week, take honest stock of what you consume and why.

Consider:

• What are you consuming automatically rather than intentionally?

• What do you reach for when you are stressed, lonely, bored, or celebrating?

• How does what you consume affect the person you are trying to become?
